CUFS MEDICAL SUPPORT FOR LAW ENFORCEMENT
GOALS:

Enhance mission accomplishment.

Reduce death, injury, illness and related effects among officers, innocent civilians and suspects.

Improve the agency’s posture in liability-prone circumstances.

Reduce line of duty injury and disability costs to the department.

Reduce lost work time for specially trained law enforcement and EMS personnel.

Maintain positive team morale by exhibiting true concern for the health and welfare of the team members.

Develop NYS Certification and Training for Tactical EMS

Lobby for ALS-First Responder status

Develop Tactical EMS Protocols
MISSION:
-
Ensure law enforcement agencies are able to provide immediate life saving care to their team members and civilians affected by tactical operations.

Ensure team health is a priority during training and tactical operations.
-
Act as a patient advocate for officers who are treated by other medical providers, and establish good working relationships within the EMS system and receiving medical facilities.

Monitor the medical effects of environmental conditions on individual and team performance; including considerations such as sleep deprivation, nutritional status, potential toxic exposures, and heat or cold stress. The tactical medic will advise the Incident Commander or Tactical Team Leader of any detected problems.

Conduct medical threat assessments to determine the potential impact of medical or health factors on a mission outcome.

Conduct in-service training of tactical officers in buddy and self first aid, to include participation in “officer down” scenarios with the team.

Provide NBC and HAZMAT threat training.
